How to restore active desktop on your PC
You
are likely to experience this if you use a PC with Windows XP and you will see
a button with phrase "Restore my active desktop" on your desktop
wallpaper. The major cause of this is improper shutdown of Computer system due
to issues like power failure or some device failure that might cause your PC to
shutdown. As time goes on, your PCs desktop will start displaying "Active
Desktop Recovery" and it would give you the option "Restore my active
Desktop”.
What is the way out?
There are many ways to remove this
message from your desktop
(1) Click on the button
“RESTORE MY ACTIVE DESKTOP” and your desktop will come back to normal.
Note: In some cases this might not work.
Then you will need to try the step 2
(2) Follow
the steps below in order to restore your active desktop:
I. Right-click anywhere on the
Desktop and click “Properties”
II. In Display Properties
change to the Desktop tab, there you
will see a monitor image with your wallpaper and you will see images listed
under the sub-heading “background”.
III. Select any other image in
the list than the one currently selected and then select the original image used
as wallpaper and click apply & then Ok.
You
should be ok and your selected will be displayed on your desktop.

is an advance solution to this issue. Please follow the steps below
carefully:
(1) From “Start”
click on ” RUN”
(2) Type “Regedit”
& press Enter or Click OK
(3) Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components
(4) Change the DeskHTMLVersion key from 272
to 0 and reboot.
Then
original desktop should now be back.
